There is a certain poetry in images. While our professions occupy a large part of our life, we are ultimately defined by our relationships and our experiences. Below is an excerpt from "Dead Poet's Society" that I really enjoy. "...no matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world. Now see that look in Mr. Pitt's eye that 19th century literature has nothing to do with going into business school or medical school. Right? Maybe...Mr. Hopkins, you may agree with him, thinking that yes, we should surely study our Mr. Pritchett's and learn our rhyme and meter and go about quietly about the business of achieving other ambitions. I've got a little secret for you... We don't read and write poety because it is cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. Medicine, business, law, and engineering...these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life; but, poetry, beauty, romance, love...these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman: Oh me, oh
life, Answer: That you are here, and life exists. An identity, that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse... What will your verse be?" These images and videos represent a few lines in my verse. |
